LAHORE: A court has stopped proceedings against actress Meera for allegedly marrying while being still solemnised with some one else, ARY News reported.
A civil court was hearing the case under judicial magistrate Uzma Sattar. The court was informed by Noor-ul-Ain, the legal counsel for the actress has lodged a case against her alleged husband Ateeq-ur-Rehman in a civil court which was still pending.
Therefore, as per the instructions of the Supreme Court, the court cannot initiate criminal proceedings if a case is pending in a civil court. As a result all proceedings against the actress should be stopped immediately. The court, after hearing the concluding remarks of the counsel, ruled in her favour and stopped all further proceedings till the case is pending in the civil court.
Ateeq-ur-Rehman has filed a complaint in a civil court that Meera is legally married to him, but has married Dr. Naveed while the marriage is legally valid and no divorce proceedings have been initated. He has sought prosecution against the actress.
On the other hand, Meera has also sought criminal prosecution against Ateeq and claimed that she was never married to him. She has alleged that he forged the ‘nikkah namah’ (marriage document) to blackmail her. She has requested the court to declare it as null and void.
