Director Sai Kabir’s upcoming film Divine Lovers starring National Award winners Irrfan Khan and Kangna Ranaut is one of the few projects from all over the world that Film France is associating itself with.
Film France that helped set up this partnership between Paris and Mumbai companies has made sure that the film is on track to be an official Indian French co production and therefore could be eligible for French qualification when its production starts. It may thus receive a mainstream cinema release in France and the rest of Europe which is a rare occurrence.
Divine Lovers is a love story set in the heartland of India and deals with the lives of the lower middle class. Says Sai, “The film will also star French technicians. It’s an attempt at making an authentic Indian film with French technical and philosophical support.” Irrfan is producing this film along with Shailesh R Singh who has previously produced films like Tanu Weds Manu, Dil Kabaddi and Shahid among others.
Their French partner co producer Leonard Glowinski has headed Studio Canal and Pathe and produced movies like Oliver Stone’s Alexander, Alain Chabat’s Asterix & Obelix Mission Cleopatre and Julian Schnabel’s The Diving Bell And The Butterfly. Says Glowinski, “What I appreciate is that this film deals with complicated subjects with a comic tone which will prove effective.” Adds Kangna, “It’s exciting for me as an artiste and as an actor. It will be India’s answer to edgy love stories that world cinema viewers enjoy.”
The film that goes on floors March next year will be shot in various locations across India.
