President Obama Privately Sends Condolences To Joan Rivers’ Daughter
U.S. President Barack Obama honored Joan Rivers following her tragic death by quietly sending a touching message to the comedienne's grieving daughter.
The funny woman died on 4th September a week after suffering a cardiac and respiratory arrest during a routine throat operation in New York. Her passing was mourned by famous fans around the world including Whoopi Goldberg, Jerry Seinfeld, Hugh Jackman and Johnny Depp but White House officials poignantly decided against releasing an official statement in her memory as is traditional when a star who has had a significant impact on American culture dies.
However Melissa Rivers reveals President Obama did make the effort to send her a private message of condolence despite the fact he and his wife Michelle were often the butt of the caustic comedienne's jokes. During a special tribute episode of the late star's Fashion Police show Melissa said, "I received a handwritten note saying 'Not only did she make us laugh she made us think'."
Rivers had previously stirred controversy by calling Obama gay and branding First Lady Michelle Obama a "tranny". She later played down her comments insisting the word "tranny" was not an insult saying, "I think it's a compliment. She's so attractive tall with a beautiful body great face does great makeup. Take a look and go back to La Cage Aux Folles. The most gorgeous women are transgender."
