Pakistani actor, host, and director Yasir Hussain has shared his thoughts about the film industry and the restrictions placed on it.
In a recent interview, Yasir said that first we need to decide what our cultural values are. Do we follow the culture before the 1970s or the one after it?
He gave an example by saying that in the past, Madam Noor Jehan’s films had beautiful item songs. So how were item songs suddenly removed from our culture?
Talking about item numbers, he said that if item songs are included in Pakistani films, they should be of good quality, not just added for the sake of it. He added that after watching Nora Fatehi’s item songs, who would want to watch Pakistani ones?
Yasir also spoke about the situation in Balochistan. He said that what is happening there is normal for the local people, but if the same thing is shown in a film or short film, it gets banned. According to him, the truth is being hidden from the world.
He gave the example of his film Javed Iqbal, which was based on a true story. But it was censored and its original message was changed. Yasir said that in America, if there is a serial killer, they can make a film about it. But in Pakistan, if someone makes a film on a true story, it is changed and ruined.
