Criticism on teacher-student romance in drama Main Manto Nahi Hoon — Humayun Saeed responds

The drama Main Manto Nahi Hoon is receiving criticism for showing a romantic angle between a teacher and a student. Actor Humayun Saeed has responded by saying that this is a social reality which cannot be ignored.

The drama is very popular right now and every episode becomes a topic of discussion on social media. While the show is appreciated, viewers are unhappy with the romance between the characters Manto and Mehmal, especially because of the age difference between them.

In a recent interview with Maliha Rehman, Humayun Saeed along with Azaan Sami Khan shared his point of view. He said that such relationships also happen in real life, sometimes teachers and students even get married, so showing it in a drama should not be surprising. He added that the story is still developing and it has not yet been shown what direction their relationship will take, but people have already started criticizing.

Humayun explained that Mehmal lives in a violent and toxic environment where there is constant fighting. When she meets someone gentle and caring who even cooks for himself, she naturally feels drawn to him. She finds it hard to believe that such a person can exist, which is why she feels an attraction toward her teacher.

He further said that if the makers wanted, they could have shown a full romance from the beginning, but that is not the case. Right now it is only a small crush from Mehmal’s side, while the teacher sees her as just a good student.
