Death of Karisma Kapoor’s billionaire ex-husband property disputes arise

A serious dispute has broken out between Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband Sanjay Kapoor’s mother and his second wife over control of his 300 billion rupee business empire.

Sanjay Kapoor, a well-known businessman and chairman of the Indian auto parts company Sona Comstar, passed away suddenly, leading to a major family conflict.

His second wife, Priya Sachdev Kapoor, was added to the company’s board, which triggered strong objections from Sanjay’s mother, Rani Kapoor.

During the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 25th July, Priya was appointed as a non-executive director. Rani Kapoor objected to this decision and requested to postpone the meeting, but her request was rejected.

Rani Kapoor claimed that during the mourning period after her son’s death, she was forced to sign some documents behind closed doors.

In a letter sent to the company’s board and shareholders, Rani Kapoor stated that according to the will of her husband, Dr. Surinder Kapoor, she is the rightful heir to the group’s legacy.

She also made it clear in the letter that she had not given anyone, including her daughter-in-law, the authority to represent the family’s inheritance.

However, the company rejected her claims in a regulatory filing, stating that she has not been a shareholder since 2019.

The company clarified that the AGM was held according to legal procedures and that her letter has no legal value.

It is also important to note that Rani Kapoor not only questioned the company’s leadership but also raised concerns about the circumstances of her son’s death and requested a fair investigation by the authorities.

According to documents, Sanjay Kapoor was the sole beneficiary of the RK Family Trust, which is a major stakeholder in Aureus Investments.

This gives legal strength to the appointment of Priya Sachdev Kapoor to the board, unless a legal challenge is raised regarding the trust.

Sanjay Kapoor married actress Karisma Kapoor in 2003. The marriage ended in divorce in 2016. They have two children, Samaira and Kiaan.

Even after the divorce, Sanjay continued to visit his children at Karisma’s home in Mumbai.

Later, Sanjay married model and businesswoman Priya Sachdev, and in 2018, they had a son named Azarius.
