According to reports circulating on social media, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has identified a case of alleged tax evasion by a well-known Pakistani actress.
According to the circulating news, the actress has about 10 million followers on social media, and the actress got married early last year.
According to reports, initial investigations have revealed that the Lahore-based film and TV star allegedly spent more than Rs 60 million on her lavish wedding.
After the actress’s marriage, the FBR investigated and found a significant discrepancy between the actress’s declared income and lifestyle.
According to reports, the actress had registered with the FBR 9 years ago, but according to her income tax returns, her financial status is not such that she spent crores of rupees on her wedding, and in addition, her foreign trips and daily celebrations are also not in line with her income.
The FBR’s investigation revealed that evidence collected from videos and other posts on social media, including the total cost of expenses on wedding venues, catering, costumes, jewelry, and production, is approximately Rs 67.7 million.
However, the actress did not disclose these expenses in her tax returns, which indicates that these amounts were paid from unreported income.
According to the FBR, the actress’s continuously increasing expenses and celebrations over the past few years indicate that she is deliberately trying to avoid taxes.
The FBR has recommended issuing a notice under Section 111 for unexplained income or assets and if the actress cannot satisfactorily explain the sources of the wedding and travel expenses, then these amounts can be considered as hidden income and included in the taxable income.
If deemed appropriate, legal action under Section 192-A for wilful tax evasion can also be considered.
It should be noted that the actress has not been officially confirmed yet, however, the list of actresses who got married early last year also includes Mawra Hussain, who has 9.9 million followers on Instagram, 31 thousand on YouTube, 2.4 million on Facebook and 1.9 million on X.
