Hania Aamir’s drama criticized for romanticizing violent men

Pakistani drama fans are currently debating what the concept of “healthy love” depicted on screen should be. In such a situation, the drama serial “Meri Zindagi Hai To” is under severe criticism for its story and characters.

The serial stars Bilal Abbas and Hania Aamir. The story revolves around a principled medical student, Aira, who is introduced to a rich and influential young man, Kamyar. Kamyar sees love as a combination of authority and stubbornness, where refusal is considered a challenge.

A large number of viewers say that the drama repeats the same old formula: a powerful and wealthy man constantly pursues a woman, ignores her refusals, interferes in her life without permission, but the story presents it in a romantic tone. Over time, Aira’s resistance is shown to weaken and she gradually turns towards Kamyar, which gives the impression that stubbornness and constant pressure are the proof of love.

Critics on social media argue that the problem is not limited to the behavior of one character, but the script of the drama and the limited development of Aira’s character are also questionable. According to them, the serial not only shows toxic behaviors but also presents them as normal and acceptable.

Some critics say that in the story, a person who is shown to have an aggressive temperament and a drug habit is justified in some way or the other. Even religious references were used in some scenes to prove moral superiority, which is also being objected to.

“Meri Zindagi Hai To” has once again raised the question of whether our dramas are reinforcing wrong concepts in the minds of the new generation by calling unhealthy relationships love?
