Komal Meer’s opinion on the misuse of the MeToo movement in Pakistan

Actress Komal Meer believes that the global MeToo movement, which was started to raise voices against harassment of women, has unfortunately been misused in Pakistan. She said that instead of highlighting real issues, the movement became confusing and less effective in the country.

She shared these views during the promotional event of her new drama Goonj, which is based on sensitive topics like harassment and verbal abuse at workplaces.

Komal explained that Goonj carries a strong social message. The story focuses on the challenges women face in offices and professional environments, especially the verbal mistreatment and harassment many go through. The drama also shows how some brave women stand up against these injustices.

She further said that her character in the drama is of a woman who takes legal action against harassment at work and becomes an inspiration for others through her fight for justice.

Komal added that one of the key goals of the drama is to inform the public that there are laws in Pakistan that protect individuals against workplace harassment and abuse. These laws allow victims to raise their voices in a proper and effective way to seek justice.

The actress admitted that she herself recently learned more about these laws and realized that many people in society are unaware of their legal rights and protections.

Komal also pointed out that women in countries like Pakistan often face serious problems like harassment, but due to fear, shame, or social pressure, they stay silent.

She expressed regret that some people in Pakistan have used the MeToo movement for personal gain. Because of this, the movement lost its strength, and the voices of real victims were pushed aside.
