Maulana Tariq Jameel’s son, Yousuf Jameel, spoke out on social media after his father conducted the marriage of Dr. Nabiha Ali and faced criticism.
In his video message, Yousuf said that Maulana Tariq Jameel recently conducted the marriage of a doctor, Dr. Nabiha Ali, after which many people criticized him.
He explained that Maulana Tariq Jameel did not even know the bride. A friend of the Maulana had requested him to conduct the marriage, and he did not refuse because he has conducted thousands of marriages in his life and does not reject anyone who asks him to perform a marriage.
Yousuf said that his father’s life and work in religion are well known, and someone who serves the faith and becomes a public figure must be careful in many matters.
He added that criticism is acceptable if a mistake happens, but in this case there are a few things to consider. Still, if anyone thinks his father should be criticized, they are free to do so.
Yousuf explained that due to health issues and age, his father now conducts very few marriages, but he has not completely stopped. Changing a routine built over decades is not easy, and people are happy when Maulana conducts their marriage, so they do not consider who he is.
He said it is almost impossible to filter which marriages his father should conduct, especially for someone who is a public figure.
Yousuf admitted that his father should not have sat with the bride, and religiously it was not allowed, but people should also consider that Maulana Tariq Jameel is 72 years old, not 30, and is not in an age of desire. The women whose marriages he conducts are usually the age of his daughters, and he treats them like a senior elder.
He added that Dr. Nabiha Ali crossed limits, did not respect who was conducting her marriage, and did not consider the sanctity of their home.
Yousuf said Maulana Tariq Jameel is a very respected elder, and anyone coming to his house must show respect and good manners. During the marriage, videos were made that included songs. Celebrating is fine, but it should have been done with consideration for the personality of the house.
He expressed regret that after this event, his father faced negative reactions. People sent videos and messages, which put pressure on him. Yousuf said people can criticize, but they should consider who is really responsible because Maulana did not expect the bride to behave this way or post the event on social media like this.
He concluded by saying that the entire lifetime of Maulana’s services should not be ignored because of one incident. Dr. Nabiha treated the marriage ceremony as a social media event rather than a serious occasion. Maulana’s personality and the video were misused, even though he is a kind-hearted and simple man. If he had known what would happen, he would have stopped it from happening in his house.
