San Rachel, a well-known model from Pondicherry, India, reportedly ended her life by suicide recently. She was 26 years old and famous in the showbiz world for her brave voice against discrimination based on skin color. She had recently gotten married.
According to Indian media reports, the police said that Sine Rachel met her father for the last time before taking many pills to stop her breathing.
After taking many pills, her condition became critical. She was first taken to a government hospital, then moved to a private hospital. When there was no improvement, she was finally shifted to Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), but she could not survive.
Her sudden death caused shock and sadness everywhere and raised many questions.
Investigating officers believe that severe financial pressure and personal problems forced Sine Rachel to take this extreme step. It is said that in the past few months, she had to pawn or sell her jewelry to collect money for her professional goals.
When her problems did not end, she asked her father for help, but he refused, saying he also had responsibility for his own son.
Police found a suicide note at the place of the incident in which it was clearly written that no one is responsible for her death.
Since she was recently married and the case is sensitive, authorities have ordered a detailed investigation to see if any issue in her married life affected her mental health.
Sine Rachel always spoke openly against discrimination faced by people with wheatish and dark skin, especially women. She talked about important topics like inclusivity and representation on her social media and tried to raise social awareness.
She was also known as Shankar Priya. She won many beauty awards including Miss Pondicherry, Miss Dark Queen Tamil Nadu, and the Miss World title in the Black Beauty category.
