Police in Jhelum district Punjab have registered a blasphemy case against well known religious scholar Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza on the complaint of a citizen.
At City Police Station Jhelum an FIR number 563/25 was filed by Hameer Ali Qadri a member of the global organization Ahl e Sunnat. The case was registered under blasphemy law and PEMRA Act 2016.
According to the FIR the complainant said that on August 24 he was in Jhelum. Around 11 am he saw a viral video clip on his mobile phone in which Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza allegedly used highly disrespectful words for Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
The FIR stated that by using such words Mirza hurt the feelings of the entire Muslim community and created unrest among Muslims. The complainant requested legal action against him under section 295 C.
It is important to note that after the controversial video statement Jhelum police had already detained Mirza under public order law 3 MPO and shifted him to jail while also sealing his academy.
Police confirmed that Mirza was sent to jail for 30 days on the orders of Deputy Commissioner Syed Maysam Abbas. They also sealed his academy.
Earlier on August 25 a group of religious scholars had met the Deputy Commissioner and demanded action against Mirza. According to the administration Mirza was arrested to maintain peace and order.
