In Quetta, the judge of the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), Muhammad Ali Mobeen, has extended the police remand of Balochistan Yekjehti Committee’s chief organiser Dr. Mahrang Baloch and five others by 20 days.
According to a report by Dawn newspaper, Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Bebo Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch, Sabghatullah Shah Ji, Bibarg Baloch, and National Party leader Ghaffar Baloch were brought to court after their previous 15-day remand ended. Police requested the court to extend the remand for another 20 days.
Advocate Israr Jatak, the lawyer representing Dr. Mahrang, opposed the request and said that it had no legal basis. The police told the court that three cases had been registered against the accused at Civil Lines and Brewery Road police stations.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the judge approved the police’s request and extended the remand by 20 days. After the court proceedings, the police took the accused back to the station.
The lawyers of all six accused said that the repeated extensions of the remand were being used by police as a way to harass their clients.
