Former Pakistan cricket team ODI captain Imad Wasim and his wife, Sania Ashfaq, announced their divorce in separate social media posts on Sunday evening. Imad Wasim first broke the news on Instagram, followed by Sania Ashfaq’s statement about two hours later.
Imad Wasim attributed the separation to years of irreconcilable differences, while Sania Ashfaq’s statement presented the matter in a much more painful way, mentioning the role of a third party, whose desire to marry Imad Wasim was described as the final blow to an already weak marriage.
Sania Ashfaq wrote, “My home has been broken, and my children have been left without a father. I am a mother of three, including a five-month-old infant who has not yet been adopted by his father.”
She said that, like other marriages, their relationship had its challenges, but it endured. I fulfilled my duties as a wife and mother and tried my best to save the family. However, the intervention of a third party, whose aim was to marry my husband, led to the end of the relationship.
Sania Ashfaq’s statement came a few hours after Imad Wasim announced his divorce on Instagram and requested the public to respect his private life and not share pictures of the ex-couple.
He said that in the future, Sania Ashfaq should not be called his wife. Imad Wasim warned of legal action for spreading misleading narratives, saying that he is the father of his children and will continue to take full and responsible care of them.
On the other hand, Sania Ashfaq said that the matter is still under legal proceedings and the truth will come out through appropriate forums. She alleged that after the intervention of a third party, she faced mental torture, abuse, miscarriage, and isolation during pregnancy, but she was patient for the sake of the dignity of the children and the home.
She also claimed that there is documentary evidence against all the responsible persons, and she is being threatened to remain silent; however, any threat will be responded to through the law.
According to Sania Ashfaq, her statement is not a personal vendetta but the truth, for her children and all women who are forced to remain silent.
It should be noted that Imad Wasim married London-based Sania Ashfaq in Islamabad in August 2019. The two met in London and after that they decided to get married.
