Famous singer Sajjad Ali’s daughter, Zau Ali, shared that she felt a lot of pressure while singing with her father. She said it took her several days to digest the fact that she performed with him.
Zau Ali and her brother Khubi Ali appeared on Geo Podcast, where they talked to host Mubashir Hashmi.
While talking about the famous ghazal Rone Na Diya, which she performed with her father, Zau said that it was not planned. The song came together suddenly and was sung for Coke Studio.
She said that at that time, she had discovered Begum Akhtar and used to hum her ghazals at home. One day, her father heard her and asked what she was singing. She sang the ghazal Ishq Mein Ghairat-e-Jazbaat Ne Rone Na Diya…, which her father really liked. Later, he asked her to perform this same ghazal with him in Coke Studio Season 10.
Zau Ali said she felt pressure because it was a big platform and she had to perform in front of a huge audience, and also because she had to sing while standing beside her father. This pressure stayed with her for days, but eventually, she performed with him.
She said she never learned singing from a teacher or through practice. She just learned by listening. She believes singing comes from a connection between the brain and the throat, which is also a technical thing.
Zau Ali said that there is nothing like Pakistani pop music in the world. She is also passionate about filmmaking and has fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a filmmaker.
She shared that she does not perform live on stage often because she sings sad songs and feels she can only make people emotional. However, she has performed live at the Arts Council in Karachi, which was a great honor because her father Sajjad Ali was present during the performance.
She also mentioned that they call their father ‘boss’. He is not just a father but also their boss.
Talking about her brother Khubi Ali, Zau said that he is a quiet person. They spent their childhood with their father, who was always around, and even now, he stays close to them.
Zau said she remembers many things from her childhood, but her brother Khubi does not remember much from that time.
