The iconic Harry Potter film franchise is set to return to the wizarding world in the form of a TV series with a new cast.
HBO’s Harry Potter TV series reboot is set to be released in 2027, replacing the original ‘Golden Trio’ of the film series – Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley. The series was first given the green light at a Warner Bros. Discovery press event on April 12, 2023.
The series will be based on the original books, not a new concept, and each season will consist of a story from a book.
HBO says the series will run for a decade and each season will be based on an excerpt from the books. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has confirmed that the cast of the series will be completely new, and it will be based on the original Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling.
Production on the series began on July 14, 2025, and the series is expected to premiere in 2027. The role of Harry Potter in this series will be played by Scottish actor Dominic McLaughlin, who has attracted fans at first sight with Harry’s distinctive uniform and the mark on his neck.
