Pakistan Beat France in Shootout to Reach Nations Cup Final
Pakistan’s hockey team made it to the final of the FIH Hockey Nations Cup after a thrilling win against France on Friday in Kuala Lumpur.
The match ended 3-3 during regular time, but Pakistan kept their cool and won 3-2 in the penalty shootout. The International Hockey Federation praised the team, saying, “Great goals in the second half and brilliant goalkeeping in the shootout!”
This victory earned Pakistan a place in the final. The President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, Mir Tariq Hussain Bugti, and Secretary General Olympian Rana Mujahid Ali Khan congratulated the team and sent their best wishes for the final match.
Later today, the second semi-final will be played between New Zealand and South Korea at 6 PM (Pakistan time). The Nations Cup is important because the winning team will qualify for the FIH Pro League 2025–26, which features the world’s top teams.
France and South Korea reached the semi-finals from Pool A, with France finishing at the top. From Pool B, New Zealand came first, and Pakistan came second with four points after three matches.
Pakistan’s road to the semi-finals included a 3-2 win over Japan and a tough 3-3 draw with Malaysia. Their only loss was against New Zealand in a close match that ended 4-3. Despite that, Pakistan made it to the next round because they had a better goal difference than Malaysia.
