Ranveer Singh and Akshay Khanna’s blockbuster spy thriller Dharandhar is not only in the headlines for its powerful story, dialogues, and acting, but its shooting locations have also remained a mystery to the fans.
Karachi and Lyari, which are especially shown in the film, have viewers repeatedly asking where these scenes were actually filmed.
Director Aditya Dhar’s mega film has created a sensation at the box office by collecting Rs 1,233 crore worldwide in just 35 days, despite the film being banned in the Gulf countries.
Not only the story but also the film’s carefully selected locations play a major role in this success.
The film began shooting in Bangkok, Thailand, where shooting began in July 2024. According to reports, Bangkok was chosen to reflect the urban areas of Pakistan, where surveillance and high-octane chase sequences were filmed.
The sets here were expertly designed to resemble Pakistani areas, so that the suspense of the story remains.
A shocking revelation to the audience is that the coastal environment of Lyari and Karachi shown in the film was actually created in Madh Island, Mumbai.
The narrow streets, the structure of the buildings and the camera angles gave such an impression of Lyari that the audience could not differentiate between reality and the film.
This is the location where Ranveer Singh’s famous dialogue ‘If you people run out of crackers, I will start the explosion’ was filmed.
Several important interior scenes of the film were shot during February 2025 at Filmistan Studios, which was the main production base of the film.
To keep the action and transition scenes close to reality, the Minkulu Bridge in Dombivali was used without much change, where the industrial environment made the chase sequences more lively.
The emotional scenes around the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, were filmed with utmost care and respect, while the Kheda village in Ludhiana was transformed into a rural area of Pakistan to capture memorable and emotional scenes.
The most challenging part of the film came in Ladakh, where the shooting was completed in August 2025 despite the harsh weather and high mountain terrain. The desolate and cold locations like Pathar Sahib further deepened the sense of loneliness, struggle and danger in the film’s story.
Interestingly, the song, which adds color and energy amidst the serious and thrilling atmosphere of the film, was shot at Parle’s Golden Tobacco Factory where the spectacular dance sequences gave the audience a completely different experience.
