The American actor Will Smith has resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Will Smith has resigned from the Academy Awards for his inappropriate behavior. After he punched comedian Chris Rock during the 94th Academy Awards live broadcast of the 2022 Oscars.
Will Smith says his act of punching Chris Rock is “shocking, painful and unforgivable.”
“I have hurt the confidence of the academy. I have deprived the other Oscar nominees of the opportunity to celebrate this wonderful evening. Am heartbroken by this act,” he said.
Will Smith resigned, adding: “Therefore, I am resigning from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. I will accept further findings from the Academy Board against me.”
It is to be noted that last Sunday at the Oscar Awards. Actor Will could not control his emotions when he made fun of Chris Rock’s wife, actress Jada Pankt Smith’s baldness. In response to Chris Rock’s joke, Chris Rock, standing up from his chair and standing on the stage, was punched in the face in front of a packed hall.
Will Smith, nominated for Best Actor at the 2022 Oscar Awards, won the Oscar just 20 minutes after those inappropriate moments.
Will Smith, while receiving the award, expressed embarrassment over his behavior and later formally apologized to Chris Rock.
