How much loss did Sardaar Ji 3 face due to not releasing in India?
Actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh recently faced criticism after the trailer of his film Sardaar Ji 3 was released. In the film, he is shown romancing Pakistani actress Hania Aamir.
Although Diljit made it clear that the film was shot before the Pahalgam attack, some fans are still upset with him.
In an interview with Indian news channel NDTV, the film’s producer Gambhir Singh Sidhu talked about the trolling on social media and the losses the film faced because it was not released in India.
After the Pahalgam terrorist attack on 22 April 2025, Indian film federations demanded a ban on the movie due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
Talking about the reaction to casting Hania, producer Gambhir said the film was shot in February in the UK, when there was no tension between the two countries and no restrictions from the Indian government or any other group.
He also said that after the Pahalgam attack, they themselves decided not to release the film in India because they did not want to hurt anyone’s feelings.
Gambhir also reacted to Hania and Mahira Khan’s social media posts where they criticized Operation Sindoor. He said he believes they should not have made those statements. He added that he cannot say much, but those things should not have been said, and he believes it was disrespectful.
Talking about the financial loss due to no release in India, Gambhir mentioned his previous film Jatt and Juliet 3, which came out last year starring Diljit and Neeru Bajwa.
He explained that Jatt and Juliet 3 made 100 crore rupees worldwide, with 40% of the earnings from India and 60% from international markets.
So, for Sardaar Ji 3, they lost around 40% of expected revenue because it was not released in India.
Sardaar Ji 3 is the third part of a popular Punjabi fantasy comedy series, where Diljit plays a funny ghost hunter. This time, the story is set in the UK, where he handles a new supernatural case. Pakistani actress Hania Aamir and Neeru Bajwa are also part of the cast.
The film was released internationally on 27 June but was not released in India.
