Major Syed Moez Abbas Shah, the Pakistan Army officer who had captured Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan alive in 2019, was martyred during an operation against Khawarij terrorists in South Waziristan.

According to the Pakistan Army’s media wing ISPR, security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation in the Sararogha area of South Waziristan. During the operation, the forces targeted a hideout of the terrorists effectively. As a result, 11 Khawarij terrorists, who were reportedly being supported by India, were killed, and 7 others were injured.

ISPR reported that during a heavy exchange of fire, Major Moez Abbas Shah and Lance Naik Jibraan Ullah were martyred. Major Moez was leading the operation. He was known for his bravery and bold actions in several anti-terror operations against Khawarij.

The 37-year-old martyr Major Moez Abbas Shah belonged to Chakwal, while the 27-year-old martyr Lance Naik Jibraan Ullah was from Bannu district.

It is important to remember that on 27 February 2019, Pakistan shot down two Indian fighter jets that had violated the Line of Control. One Indian pilot, Wing Commander Abhinandan, was captured alive.

After Abhinandan’s plane crashed in Pakistani territory, some local citizens started to beat him. Major Moez and his team reached the spot, protected Abhinandan from the crowd, and took him into custody.

Later, as a goodwill gesture, the Government of Pakistan released the captured Indian pilot and handed him over to Indian authorities at the Wagah border.

Meanwhile, the funeral prayer of Major Syed Moez Abbas Shah, who was martyred while bravely fighting in an operation against the Khawarij terrorists, was offered at Chaklala Garrison in Rawalpindi.

The funeral was attended by a large number of senior military and civil officials, officers, and soldiers, including the Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

On this occasion, the Army Chief said that Major Syed Moez Abbas fought bravely and achieved martyrdom despite strong resistance. He added that the officer upheld the highest traditions of duty, sacrifice, and patriotism.
