Social media accounts of Pakistani actors blocked in India

India has blocked the social media accounts of several Pakistani celebrities.

After shutting down the YouTube channels of Pakistani YouTubers and news outlets, the Indian government, in panic, has now targeted Pakistani actors.

Under a legal request related to content monitoring, Instagram has limited access for Indian users to the accounts of many well-known Pakistani actors and influencers.

The actors whose accounts have been blocked in India include actress Mahira Khan, actress Hania Aamir, actress Sajal Aly, singer and actor Ali Zafar, and others.

When Indian users try to visit these accounts, they see a message saying that the account is not available in India and has been restricted due to a legal request.

Earlier, India had blocked 16 YouTube channels from Pakistan, including those run by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Along with these media channels, individual content creators like former cricketers Shoaib Akhtar, Basit Ali, and Rashid Latif were also affected.

According to sources, India took this step in the name of national security, while Pakistani media has called it a restriction on freedom of speech.

Criticism is also growing on social media over the ongoing trend of blocking Pakistani content.
