Which actress demanded an 8-hour shift before Deepika?
Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone was recently in the news after she stepped out of director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film Spirit.
Reports said she had put forward some conditions, and one of them was that she wanted to work only 8 hours a day. Since this condition was not accepted, she left the film.
Many well-known people from the Indian film industry supported her.
Recently, director Siddharth P. Malhotra revealed that long before Deepika, actresses like Rani Mukerji and Kajol had also made the same demand. He said they too worked with strict working hours.
In the 2018 film Hichki, Rani Mukerji played the lead role. It was her first film after giving birth to her daughter Adira. The movie was produced by her husband Aditya Chopra.
Director Siddharth Malhotra shared that the entire film was shot in 28 shifts of 8 hours each. He said whether it was child actors, spot boys, or Rani herself, everyone completed their work within those hours.
Kajol worked as the lead actress in Siddharth Malhotra’s 2010 film We Are Family.
The director said that Kajol was very clear that she would only work for 8 hours. She would either work from 10 AM to 6 PM, or from 7 AM to 2 PM, or even at night, but never for more than 8 hours.
Siddharth added that Deepika’s demand for fixed working hours was nothing new.
In a recent interview, Kajol also said that she always followed the rule of working only for a limited time. She said she never worked for 20 or 30 hours. Her mother, actress Tanuja, also supported her in this.
Talking about the issue between Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Deepika, Siddharth said that if Deepika had clearly told her conditions from the beginning and the director did not agree, then he should not have signed her.
He also defended Deepika and said that if a director really wants to work with an actor and believes the film can be completed in that time, even 6 hours a day is fine. He added that this is not just about one actor, people are just using Deepika’s name for attention. She only asked for family time, and there is nothing wrong in that.
