A crucial scene has been deleted from the YouTube version of the latest episode of the drama ‘Case No. 9’, which included a reference to the 26th Constitutional Amendment and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.

Geo Entertainment’s sensitive drama ‘Case No. 9’ is quite popular among the viewers due to its unique storyline and excellent acting.

The drama effectively depicts a woman’s struggle for justice and has become a topic of further discussion after a crucial scene was deleted from the YouTube version of its episode 17, which included a reference to the 26th Constitutional Amendment and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.

The deleted line was said by Amina Sheikh’s character Benish, who is the lawyer for Saba Qamar’s character Sahar.

When Faisal Qureshi’s character is testifying in court, he tries to question Sahar’s character by mentioning that she is divorced and not a virgin. In response, Benesh gives an effective speech based on strong arguments and quotes the decisions of Justice Ayesha Malik and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.

Citing Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and his decision, she says that if the 26th Constitutional Amendment had not been passed and had not become an obstacle in her way, she would have been the Chief Justice of this country today.

In response, the opposing lawyer reads a poem by Mirza Ghalib and says that Parliament is the highest institution of the country and it is he who passed the 26th Amendment.

Viewers who watched the episode on Wednesday night, including members of the Dawn Images team, saw this scene, but by Thursday morning, this part had been removed from the channel’s official YouTube upload.

However, the drama’s writer and journalist Shahzeb Khanzada shared a clip of the unedited portion of this scene in X-Post.

For those who are not familiar, the 26th Constitutional Amendment was passed by Parliament on October 20, 2024, which removed the suo motu powers of the Supreme Court, fixed the tenure of the Chief Justice of Pakistan for three years, and empowered the Prime Minister to nominate one of the three most senior judges of the Supreme Court as the Chief Justice.

Earlier, the Chief Justice was automatically the most senior judge of the Supreme Court.

The 26th Amendment was criticized by the PTI and legal experts as an attempt to prevent the most senior judge, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, from becoming the Chief Justice.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah resigned from the Supreme Court last week after the passage of the controversial 27th Constitutional Amendment.

‘Case No. 9’ is being widely praised for its bold portrayal of the challenges faced by rape victims in Pakistan in accessing justice.

The inclusion of references to the decisions of Justice Ayesha Malik and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah in the episode aired yesterday was particularly praised, especially Justice Ayesha Malik’s opinion that a woman’s past relationships have no bearing on her character or the rape case.
