Bollywood star Aamir Khan has responded to criticism about playing very different roles with actress Fatima Sana Shaikh, who is much younger than him. He made it clear that in real life, he is neither her father nor her boyfriend.
In the 2016 hit film Dangal, Aamir played Fatima’s father. Later, in the 2018 film Thugs of Hindostan, the two appeared as a romantic pair. Some people raised objections about this.
In an interview, Aamir Khan said that they are just actors doing their jobs by playing different roles in movies, and that these roles do not reflect real-life relationships.
He gave an example from Bollywood history, mentioning that legendary actors Amitabh Bachchan and Waheeda Rehman once played mother and son in one film, but also acted as romantic partners in other movies.
Aamir also revealed that the role played by Fatima in Thugs of Hindostan was first offered to big actresses like Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, and Shraddha Kapoor. But for different reasons, they all refused the role. After that, Fatima was selected.
He admitted that the story of the film was weak, which may have been a major reason why the actresses rejected it.
In the end, Aamir Khan said that it is not right to connect movie roles with real life because actors are simply doing their professional work.
