Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, still has strong concerns about Mishal Yousafzai becoming a senator. She said that Mishal’s selection goes against merit and justice.

According to Dawn News, Aleema Khan was talking to media outside Adiala Central Jail in Rawalpindi. When she was asked whether she was against Mishal Yousafzai becoming a senator, she replied that she does not want to waste her time talking about such people. She added that she believes justice should have been done.

Aleema said that in her view, the selection of senators should have been based on merit. She also said that if we talk about merit, there were many more qualified people than Mishal Yousafzai. She ended her comment by saying only this much — justice should have been done.

It is important to note that on 31st July, a by-election was held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the Senate seat that became vacant after Sania Nishtar’s resignation. In that election, PTI’s Mishal Yousafzai won and became a senator.

In the election for the vacant seat in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Mishal Yousafzai got 86 votes, while opposition candidate Mehtab Zafar received 53 votes. A total of 73 votes were needed to win the seat.

Earlier, it was expected that Mishal Yousafzai might face challenges on this women’s reserved seat because independent candidate Mehtab Zafar had the support of the united opposition, while PTI also supported another independent candidate, Saima Khalid.
