Renowned Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt’s mother and veteran artist Soni Razdan has spoken out against the Israeli atrocities on Palestinians.
Soni Razdan recently shared a long and emotional note on Instagram, in which she expressed deep concern over the ongoing oppression in Palestine while recalling her grandfather’s resistance against Hitler in Nazi Germany.
Veteran artist and mother of renowned Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt, Soni Razdan, has spoken out against the Israeli atrocities on Palestinians.
In a heartfelt and emotional Instagram post, Soni Razdan reflected on the ongoing suffering in Palestine, drawing a powerful parallel with her grandfather’s resistance against Hitler in Nazi Germany.
She expressed gratitude that her grandfather is not alive today, as the current situation would have shattered him.
Soni began her post by referencing a video clip of Australian-Jewish actress Miriam Margolyes, in which Margolyes says, “Hitler won, because he turned the Jews into people like him.” Soni called this statement profoundly heartbreaking and terrifying, saying that these words have now become a disturbing reality.
She recounted how her German grandfather had secretly published an underground newspaper during Hitler’s rule, filled with writings critical of the Nazi regime. The paper was distributed discreetly among the public. Eventually, he was caught, imprisoned, and later sent to a brutal concentration camp, where he endured unbearable conditions.
Soni shared that although her grandfather was later released due to his German nationality, he was exiled from Germany.
She wrote: “My grandfather had the courage to speak out against a dictator. When I see the atrocities being committed in Palestine today, I feel a strange peace knowing he’s not alive to witness this—it would have broken him completely.”
Expressing disbelief, she added: “The very people for whom my grandfather risked his life are now oppressing others. It’s incomprehensible and devastating to me.”
Calling it a cruel irony of history, she said she feels a deeply emotional connection to Palestine, as her family has always stood against oppression.
She further stated: “Just as many Germans opposed Hitler, many Jews today stand against what is happening in Palestine. But brave souls like my grandfather are rare.”
In conclusion, Soni wrote: “My heart beats for all those who stand for truth and risk their lives to show the world the reality. The world once fought a global war so that justice and truth could prevail.”
She ended by saying she’s proud her grandfather stood on the right side of history — and prays the world soon follows in his footsteps.
The post was liked by her daughter, Alia Bhatt, which appears to signal her agreement and support for her mother’s sentiments.
