Did Diljit’s career get at risk because of Hania Aamir’s casting?
In the 90s, Bollywood superstar Sunny Deol’s blockbuster film Border became a huge hit. When its sequel Border 2 was announced, the entry of global star Diljit Dosanjh made the film even more popular. But now, Diljit’s role in the film is in danger.
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) raised objections after Diljit cast Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3. They are now questioning Diljit’s role in Border 2.
According to Indian media reports, Border 2 is currently being shot in Pune with actors like Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty.
Will Diljit be removed from Border 2?
India Today reported that a few months ago, the makers of Border 2 had officially announced Diljit as part of the cast. He was supposed to play a patriotic soldier.
But now, new reports say that he might be removed from the film because of the controversy surrounding Hania Aamir’s casting in Sardaar Ji 3.
FWICE has written a letter to India’s Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, asking them to cancel Diljit’s permission to shoot for the film.
In the letter, FWICE said they are writing with national concerns, as Border 2 is being shot at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune.
They pointed out that Diljit has officially been boycotted by FWICE because of his connection to people and a film that hurt national sentiments, especially due to working with Pakistani artists known for anti-India views.
The letter also said Diljit participated in projects with Pakistani artists soon after terrorist attacks in sensitive areas like Pahalgam. Some of those projects even targeted India’s army through social media.
FWICE added that since the film is being shot at a military site, which symbolizes sacrifice and national pride, Diljit’s presence there is wrong because his actions go against the spirit of national unity.
Is Diljit really being removed?
Sources told Hindustan Times that there are no current plans to remove Diljit from Border 2. His casting was finalized about nine months ago, long before this controversy. Half of the film is already shot, so replacing him now would be nearly impossible.
So far, neither the makers of Border 2 nor Diljit Dosanjh have made any official statement about FWICE’s objections.
Also, FWICE has officially announced a boycott of Diljit in the Indian film industry. They are also demanding to cancel his social media accounts and even revoke his Indian citizenship.
Meanwhile, the film Sardaar Ji 3 has been released worldwide. The producers said that they completed the shooting before the Pahalgam attack and had to release the film overseas to recover their investment.
