Pakistan’s famous fashion designer Faiza Saqlain has claimed that actress Maya Ali’s fashion brand Maya Pret is copying her designs. Faiza shared several posts on Instagram showing pictures of her own brand’s outfits next to Maya Pret’s outfits and asked if she should feel happy seeing this.
She said the similarities are not only in the dresses but also in the models and the photoshoot backgrounds.
Faiza compared three outfits from her old collections with the ones recently released by Maya Ali’s brand.
Addressing the brand Faiza wrote that they should create something original. In a sarcastic tone she added that she cannot promise anything but hopes it will sell too.
The designs shared on Instagram also included a bridal outfit from Maya Pret’s latest collection released this month which closely resembles a dress from Faiza Saqlain’s 2021 collection.
In another post Faiza Saqlain showed a velvet saree from Maya Pret which looked very similar to one of her own designs from last year. The colors were different but both sarees had a fine silver border.
The last outfit was a black peshwas that appeared to use the same model featured in Faiza Saqlain’s 2023 catalog.
Besides comparing her designs with Maya Ali’s brand Faiza also reshared stories from followers and colleagues who accused Maya Pret of copying her work.
One story said that the bridal dress was a tribute Faiza had made for her mother and seeing it copied made her sad.
Another user wrote that Faiza earned her success through hard work and it was heartbreaking to see her designs being copied.
So far Maya Ali and her brand Maya Pret have not responded to the matter.
