How did the former father-in-law and daughter-in-law come together for Main Manto Nahin Hoon?
Main Manto Nahin Hoon is a big-budget drama coming soon on ARY Digital. Its teaser has already created a buzz on the internet.
This drama marks the return of the successful team behind the blockbuster Mere Paas Tum Ho — Humayun Saeed, director Nadeem Baig, and writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar.
The drama features a star-studded cast, and what makes it more interesting is that Sajal Aly and Asif Raza Mir, who are former daughter-in-law and father-in-law in real life, are sharing the screen together.
This has become a hot topic among fans, and now director Nadeem Baig has also spoken about casting both of them in the same project.
He shared details about the drama in a YouTube show hosted by Maliha Rehman, where he talked openly about Main Manto Nahin Hoon.
Nadeem Baig shared that for the role of Sajal’s father, he had Asif Raza Mir in mind. He called Asif and told him about the character. After listening to everything, Asif paused for a few seconds and then agreed.
Nadeem said he asked Asif if he was okay playing the role of Sajal’s father, and Asif replied that he had no problem at all. He said he was a professional actor, and his job was only to perform the role. He even told Nadeem to ask Sajal if she was fine with it.
Nadeem then called Sajal and told her that he wanted to cast Asif Raza Mir as her father. Sajal said if he suits the role, then go ahead and cast him. She said she had no issue.
Nadeem also revealed that the drama includes several scenes where the father and daughter appear together on screen.
He said that when shooting started, Asif came to the set and Sajal was already there. They both hugged and started working.
Nadeem added that during their scenes, he had to scold them sometimes because they wouldn’t stop talking and laughing together.
He said these stars have set a great example for actors who refuse to work together because of small personal issues.
Nadeem also revealed that Sajal was always his first choice for this role. She is playing a student in the drama. He had worked with her before in the dramas Kuch Ankahi and Sinf-e-Aahan.
There was a delay in the drama’s production, which is why he didn’t announce the cast earlier. But once the work on Main Manto Nahin Hoon started, he immediately brought Sajal on board.
Nadeem shared that the drama has a big cast, and at first, it was difficult to arrange everyone’s dates. But once everyone came together, things became easier.
He also mentioned that Saima Khan is one star he always wanted to work with. He kept calling her for this role, but she refused many times.
According to Nadeem, he always felt Saima was not given the kind of powerful roles she deserved as an actress. Finally, in Main Manto Nahin Hoon, she got the role she truly deserved.
To convince her, Nadeem even had to call her husband, filmmaker Syed Noor, and request him to help.
