The sock worn by late pop superstar Michael Jackson during a concert in France in the 1990s has been sold at auction in an unwashed condition.

Auctioneer Aurore Ely told AFP that Michael Jackson wore these white socks many times while performing his famous song Billie Jean.

She added that in July 1997, after a concert in the southern city of Nîmes, a technician left the used sock near Michael Jackson’s dressing room.

After that, the sock was carefully kept safe for 28 years and has now been put up for auction.

At first, the sock was expected to sell for 3000 to 4000 euros which is about 3400 to 4500 dollars. But it was sold for 7688 euros which is around 8822 dollars at an auction house in Nîmes.

This is not the first time that Michael Jackson’s clothing, especially items worn during his performances and music videos, have been sold for large amounts.

In 2009, a gaming resort in Macau paid 350000 dollars for the glittering glove he wore during his first Moonwalk dance in 1983.

Also, a hat he wore just before that performance was sold in 2023 for over 80000 dollars.

In the same year, a leather jacket he wore in a soft drink commercial in 1984 was sold for more than 300000 dollars.

Michael Jackson passed away in 2009 at the age of 50 due to a deadly overdose.

Even though he faced child abuse allegations during his life, his popularity has never decreased and he remains loved by millions around the world.
