Pakistani actress and model Humaira Asghar’s family has finally agreed to receive her body. According to reports, her sister and brother-in-law are now ready to travel from Lahore to Karachi to take custody of her remains.
Humaira Asghar, who gained fame after appearing as a contestant on Pakistan’s biggest reality show Tamasha, had worked in both acting and modeling. But no one knows how, when, or under what painful circumstances she took her last breath.
Her badly decomposed body was found on July 8 from an apartment in Phase 8, Defence, Karachi. According to SSP South Mahzoor Ali, Humaira had been living alone in the flat for the past 7 years. She had rented the apartment in 2018 but stopped paying rent in 2024. Due to unpaid rent, the landlord went to court.
If the landlord had not taken legal action, and if the court officer had not gone to the apartment with a legal notice and broken the door after getting no response, her body might have remained undiscovered for a long time.
When the door was opened, the body was found in a terrible condition. Humaira was wearing a pink t-shirt and jeans, and there were many insects around the body. The body was sent to Jinnah Hospital for post-mortem. With the help of chemical testing, the hospital confirmed the identity as Humaira Asghar.
Initially, police suspected the body was 2 to 4 weeks old. However, recent updates from SSP South suggest the body may have been there for over 6 months.
At first, Humaira’s father refused to accept the body, saying they had cut ties with her two years ago and they had no relation to her anymore. He said the authorities could do whatever they wanted with the body, and that he would not come to Karachi to receive it.
Later, police shared that Humaira’s father, who lives in Lahore, had asked for some time to think. After this news became public, many celebrities including Sonya Hussyn and other kind-hearted individuals offered to take full responsibility for her funeral and burial.
On social media, many people criticized her family, especially her parents, for refusing to perform her last rites. However, some users said no one knows what pain the parents went through that led them to such a strict decision, and that no one can love a child more than their parents.
Now, a new development has taken place. Although Humaira’s father and brother had refused to receive the body, her sister and brother-in-law have contacted the police. According to media reports, they will arrive in Karachi from Lahore on July 10 to collect Humaira Asghar’s body.
