Bollywood actor Zayed Khan’s mother, actress Zarine Khan, passed away at the age of 81 due to age-related health complications.
Her funeral prayers were offered in Mumbai, and her final rites were also performed according to Hindu traditions.
According to Indian media outlet DNA India, videos shared by Zayed Khan showing his mother’s last rites being performed according to Hindu rituals have gone viral on social media.
In the viral videos, Zayed Khan appeared emotional and was seen carrying an earthen pot as part of the ceremony.
After the videos surfaced, many people on social media expressed surprise over why Zarine Khan’s final rites were conducted in the Hindu way.
In fact, Zarine Khan belonged to a Hindu Parsi family. Before her marriage, her original name was Zarine Katrak. She married Sanjay Khan in 1966 and adopted the surname Khan, but her family chose to perform her last rites according to her birth religion’s customs.
Along with family members and close friends, many Bollywood celebrities also attended Zarine Khan’s funeral.
Zarine Khan had four children with Sanjay Khan — interior designer Sussanne Khan, actor Zayed Khan, Simone Arora, and Farah Ali Khan.
Zarine Khan herself was also an actress. She appeared alongside Dev Anand in the 1963 film Tere Ghar Ke Samne.
She met her husband, Sanjay Khan, during a film shoot. Sanjay Khan belongs to an Iranian-origin Muslim family, and his real name is Shah Abbas Khan.
