Influential man beating youth in DHA video goes viral
Karachi police arrested a man named Salman Farooqi on Monday along with his driver and security guard for beating up a citizen in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area. The action was taken after a video of the incident went viral on social media, which got the attention of the authorities.
According to Karachi South DIG Syed Asad Raza, the suspect was arrested from DHA and his luxury car was also seized. The video showed a minor road accident between Farooqi’s car and a biker who had a woman sitting with him. After the accident on Khayaban-e-Ittehad road, Farooqi reportedly beat the biker and misbehaved with the woman.
Earlier in the day, police had already arrested Farooqi’s driver and guard during late-night raids at his house and office. DIG Raza confirmed that Farooqi is not a government employee. He also said the victim had not come forward to file a complaint, but the police were trying to contact his family.
Meanwhile, Gizri police registered an FIR (First Information Report) based on a complaint by a man named Mohammad Saleem. He said he was a mobile company manager and witnessed the incident. Saleem said the biker was held at gunpoint, abused, and beaten by Farooqi. The woman with the biker begged for mercy, but Farooqi pushed her away.
The FIR includes serious charges under the Pakistan Penal Code, such as threatening to kill, wrongful confinement, using criminal force against a woman, and insulting behavior that could lead to violence.
DIG Raza said the case is being taken very seriously and full justice will be given to the victim. He added that the law is the same for everyone, and no one is above it.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar and Karachi Additional IG Javed Alam Odho also asked for a full report and strict action against those responsible.
This is not the first case of road rage in Pakistan. In March, armed guards in Lahore fired at a car driver in Dharampura and ran away. Last year in October, three men were arrested for misbehaving with women at a restaurant in DHA, but they were later given bail.
The authorities have made it clear: violence and abuse will not be tolerated, and everyone must follow the law.
