After the release of the film Saira, people started saying that its story has been copied from the Korean film A Moment to Remember, which is loved by many Bollywood fans.
Indian filmmaker Mohit Suri last directed the movie Ek Villain Returns in 2022. Now, he has returned to the silver screen with Saira.
The film stars Ahaan Panday and Anushka Patda in lead roles, introducing two new faces to Bollywood.
When the trailer of Saira came out, many Bollywood fans felt that the film looked like a copy of Mohit Suri’s earlier hit Aashiqui 2, because several scenes in the trailer reminded them of Aashiqui 2.
But after the full movie was released, opinions changed. Viewers noticed that the story of Saira is quite similar to the plot of the Korean film A Moment to Remember.
Let’s look at what makes the two stories feel similar.
In both movies, the female lead is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. After this, the story takes a romantic and emotional turn, and in the end, the importance of memories is highlighted.
In Saira, Ahaan Panday plays Krish, a moody musician who has a tragic past. Anushka Patda plays Vani, a sweet and lovable girl who is later diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s.
On the other hand, the Korean film by John H. Lee is an iconic emotional drama where love is shown through memories. Saira also seems to follow a similar plot.
It’s also worth mentioning that Mohit Suri has previously been accused of copying Korean films. His film Ek Villain was said to be inspired by the Korean movie I Saw the Devil Was Far Apart.
However, the makers of Saira have not accepted that the story is copied. Mohit Suri has said that the film is based on original content.
Those who watched Saira closely say that the film does show differences in characters and cultural background. For example, in Saira, the main characters are a musician and a journalist. But in A Moment to Remember, the story starts with a strong focus on the characters’ office and family life, which catches viewers’ attention right away.
Because of these differences, some people claim that Saira is not a copy but a new creation.
