The Sindh High Court has suspended the FIA order that placed fashion designer Nomi Ansari’s name on the stop list in the tax fraud case related to travel restrictions. This came during the hearing of a contempt of court petition filed against FBR officials.

According to reports, the case was heard in the High Court regarding travel restrictions on Nomi Ansari in the tax fraud matter. The petitioner’s lawyer argued that despite an interim order from the court, his client’s name was added to the passport control list.

The lawyer further said that after being allowed once by the court, the petitioner had traveled abroad. Since his work requires frequent international travel, he should be allowed to travel freely.

The FBR submitted guidelines regarding tax fraud cases. As per the guidelines, action will follow the Sales Tax Act under court orders. For cases before July 1, action will be taken under Supreme Court directions, while cases after July 1 will follow the Finance Act 2025. The court’s principles for a fair trial will be fully implemented.

The court ordered FBR to provide a copy of its reply to the petitioner. The court also noted that the petitioner had already deposited property as surety with the court observer.

The High Court then suspended the FIA order that placed the petitioner’s name on the stop list and adjourned the hearing until September 29, keeping the interim order in place until then.
