Famous Indian lyricist and writer Javed Akhtar, who holds controversial religious views, has reacted to the issue of removing the niqab of a Muslim female doctor.
However, he is clear that this view does not mean that inappropriate behavior towards a woman should be accepted.
He stated that the action taken by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is unacceptable in any way.
According to Javed Akhtar, this issue is not limited to differences of views or opinions but is related to the dignity, honor, and respect of a woman.
He strongly condemned this act and said that any condemnation of such behavior is insufficient.
The statement further said that a person holding a public office is expected to show utmost responsibility, respect, and decency towards every citizen, especially women. The incident has not only disappointed the public but also raised many questions regarding the safety and dignity of women.
He stressed that Nitish Kumar should offer an unconditional apology to the concerned female doctor so that a clear and positive message can be conveyed against such incidents.
He said that differences of opinion have their place, but mocking or hurting anyone’s feelings is not acceptable under any circumstances. It should be noted that Javed Akhtar often comes under criticism for holding controversial religious views.
