A dangerous habit of energy drinks robbed a 22-year-old man in Russia of his ability to walk. According to a foreign news agency, Artem, a resident of St. Petersburg, was fond of computer games and drank energy drinks to stay awake.

At first, he drank only one bottle a day, but over time his habit grew and he began to drink 3 to 5 bottles on an empty stomach. One day, with severe abdominal pain, vomiting and nausea, he was taken to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). Even after treatment, the disease returned and a cyst (sac) formed in the pancreas.

The situation worsened dangerously after a third visit to the hospital. Purulent necrosis (dirty, swollen tissues) developed in the pancreas, poison spread throughout the body and Artem’s legs became paralyzed. Now he is undergoing rehabilitation and is training to walk again.

Experts warn about energy drinks that excessive consumption of these beverages (especially on an empty stomach) is extremely dangerous for the pancreas, heart, and blood vessels.
