On the occasion of Universal Children’s Day, actress and UNICEF Pakistan’s National Ambassador for Child Rights, Saba Qamar, has called for highlighting the rights of children in Pakistan.
In a video shared on social media, Saba Qamar appealed to the public to “stand together” to protect the rights of children.
Saba Qamar said that every child has the right to learn, grow up in a healthy environment, live a safe life and raise their voice for decisions related to their future. In her message, the actress said that according to statistics, about 1.9 crore girls in Pakistan are victims of child marriages, while more than half of the underage girls face pregnancy before the age of 18, which can be dangerous for both the mother and the child.
The actress appealed to the public to show solidarity with such children by making ‘Pakistan Blue’ across the country, which is the symbolic identity of World Children’s Day.
It may be recalled that in 2024, UNICEF appointed Saba Qamar as the first National Ambassador for Child Rights. Saba Qamar has expressed her commitment to raising awareness about issues such as child education, mental health, gender equality, child marriage and violence.
