Bollywood classic Sholay will be re-released in cinemas across India on December 2 next month with a new ending. Released in 1975, this Bollywood film is still alive in the hearts of fans due to its brilliant story, memorable dialogues and strong characters.
Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Amjad Khan, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini and Jaya Bachchan played important roles in this film. Now the fans of the film will be able to see the original ending, which has never been seen before in public.
According to Indian media, the original climax of the film had to be changed under the instructions of the Censor Board. In 1975, Emergency was imposed in India, which included restrictions on freedom of expression, arrests of political opponents and strict censorship on the media.
In this era, in the original ending, Thakur kills Gabbar Singh with a spiked shoe, but due to pressure from the censor board, in the released version, the police arrest Gabbar and Thakur does not take the law into his own hands.
Ramesh Sippy said that now, on the completion of 50 years of the film, fans will be able to see the ending that according to him makes the film more historic. He said that the only difference is that in the original climax, Thakur does justice in his own way, while the previous version showed the supremacy of law.
According to Indian media, this re-release will be on about 1,500 screens, which is one of the largest screenings in India for a restored classic film. Sholay fans will enjoy this historic film again on December 12 with their favorite characters and the original ending.
