Sonya recently gave an interview to Independent Urdu regarding her film career. She has appeared in films including Azaadi and Tich Button. She revealed which Pakistani actor she would like to work with in a film. She stated Fawad Khan is fantastic, but she would want to work with Ali Zafar since he looks great in films.

She also revealed that she had been promised several Bollywood films before relations between India and Pakistan soured. She was offered a Shakespearean adaptation, a remake of an old classic, and a picture starring Emraan Hashmi. She had a meeting for the Emraan Hashmi picture, but she turned it down because her family was not supportive of her work at the time, and she was also too young.
