The year 2025 also proved to be a turbulent one for Bollywood, with a total of more than 100 films released, most of which, including Dabangg actor Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’ and Kapil Sharma’s ‘Kiss Kis Ko Pyaar Karo To’, starring many famous actors, turned out to be flops.
However, films that often flopped at the box office found a place on the OTT platform where they were well received and the film also managed to do good business, while this year too, anti-Pakistan propaganda films like ‘Dharandhar’ reigned supreme.
First of all, let’s talk about the propaganda film ‘Dharandhar’ made on the ‘gang war’ that took place in the Lyari area of Karachi. Directed by Indian director Aditya Dhar, the film ‘Dharandhar’ shows the negative face of Pakistan and especially Lyari.
In addition, the characters shown in the film were also widely criticized on social media, which had no connection with reality. However, Akshay Khanna’s performance, who played the role of Rehman Dakit in the film, was highly praised, which is why the film has been counted among the highest-grossing films of this year despite being released on December 5.
Dharandhar
Made with a huge budget of Rs 250 crore, the film ‘Dharandhar’ has so far grossed over Rs 707 crore at the box office, while the film has grossed a total of over Rs 907 crore worldwide.
The film stars Ranveer Singh (Hamza Ali Mazari), Akshaye Khanna (Rehman Dakit), Sanjay Dutt (Chhattisgarh Aslam Shaheed) and Arjun Rampal (secret agency officer) in the lead roles.
Chhaava
This year, the most successful Bollywood film at the box office was ‘Chhavaa’, starring Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna in the lead roles, while the film is directed by renowned filmmaker Laxman Utekar and is made under the banner of Medak Films.
Chhavaa depicts the life of Chhatrapati Subhaji Maharaj, which is based on his journey to take the throne after the death of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Released on February 14, the film was made on a huge budget of Rs 150 crore and grossed Rs 716 crore in India, while the film managed to earn Rs 807 crore worldwide.
Saiyaara
The romantic film ‘saiyaara’ created a stir at the box office upon its release. Despite having a new and unknown cast, the film joined the 100 crore club within the first few days.
Directed by Mohit Suri, this film starred Chunky Pandey’s nephew Ahan Pandey and Anit Pada in the lead roles and surprisingly, it was the debut film of both of them which turned out to be a blockbuster.
Which is proof that if the script is lively, the characters are impressive and the direction is fantastic, then even a film with completely new faces can be a hit at the box office.
war 2
Unlike Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff’s 2019 hit film ‘War’, the sequel to this film proved to be a flop despite having big names in the lead, but managed to earn more at the box office than other Bollywood films.
The action thriller film stars Junior NTR in the lead role alongside Hrithik Roshan in place of Tiger Shroff, while Kiara Advani, Ashutosh Rana, and Anil Kapoor also play important roles. The film is part of the ‘Spy Universe’ produced under the Yash Raj banner, all of whose films are based on wars between friends rather than enemies.
The film ‘War 2’ was made with a huge budget of 400 crore,s and the film had already done business of more than 84 crores per day. However, it did not do well at the box office, contrary to its budget, but it managed to do good business compared to other films in India.
The film ‘War 2’, released on August 14, 2025, grossed Rs 284 crore in India, while the film managed to earn Rs 366 crore worldwide. Apparently, the film could not even meet its budget.
Housefull 5
Like War 2, the fifth film in the Housefull franchise was also a flop; however, due to the film’s large budget and large cast, it managed to do more business at the box office than other films and overall ranked fifth in terms of earnings this year.
Housefull 5, which was released on June 6, featured Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Bobby Deol, Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, Chunky Pandey, Fardeen Khan, Nargis Fakhri, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Chitrangada Singh, Nora Fatehi, and Kriti Kharbanda in various roles.
Made on a budget of Rs 250 crore, the film grossed Rs 219 crore in India, while overall, the film managed to earn Rs 290 crore worldwide.
