Pakistani dramas have been popular around the world since the very beginning. In fact, Pakistan was the first in the subcontinent to start TV drama productions.
There was a time when drama cassettes from Pakistan were sent to India, and famous Bollywood actors used to learn acting by watching Pakistani artists.
Now, the world has gone digital, but Pakistani dramas are still loved worldwide. Social media platforms have helped spread Pakistani content even more across the globe.
In India, Pakistani dramas are still appreciated. However, due to their rising popularity, the Indian government, out of hatred, banned Pakistani drama channels in their country.
Now, platforms like YouTube and Netflix, where Indian viewers used to watch Pakistani dramas and films, are no longer showing this content in India.
Over the years, Indian filmmakers have tried to cast Pakistani actors in Bollywood films. Many Pakistani artists have worked in Bollywood and gained fame. Among the newer stars, Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan, Saba Qamar, Mawra Hocane, and others have acted in hit Bollywood films. Fawad Khan was set to return in a film called Abeer Gulal, but due to rising tensions and war-like policies in India, the film has now been canceled.
At the moment, Hania Aamir is the only Pakistani actress whose Indian film has not been shelved. Instead of releasing it in India, the filmmakers are planning to release it overseas.
There are also many Pakistani artists who refused to work in Indian films. They had different reasons. Some rejected Bollywood offers due to patriotism, others did not agree with the film’s message, and some had already signed films but were later stopped from working due to pressure from extremist Hindu political party BJP.
One of the biggest drama stars, Ayeza Khan, was offered roles in two Bollywood films by famous Indian directors Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Imtiaz Ali. They both wanted her to play the lead role, but the names of those films were never made public.
Ayeza Khan said that she wanted to act in a Pakistani film first. Later, she became busy with her children, so she did not accept any film offers.
Ayeza Khan has never acted in any Indian or Pakistani film. She has only worked in TV dramas.
