Senior actor, director, and broadcaster Mohsin Gillani gave a strong reaction to young actresses who criticize the showbiz industry. He said that if this field doesn’t feel safe, they should leave it. Just complaining won’t help.
In a recent appearance on the podcast RTS with 24 Plus, Mohsin Gillani spoke openly on different issues.
He said that the downfall of the drama industry started when it began to copy the film environment. In films, there were distributors; now in dramas, channels and marketing teams play that role. They only care about glamour now. The quality of stories has dropped. Most dramas just show one girl with two boys or two boys with one girl. The whole story is about how they cannot get married, and in the end, they finally do.
He said this same kind of story has been going on for the last fifteen years. TV channels believe these stories bring good ratings.
He added that just like in films, only the lead roles are given importance now. Supporting roles are ignored. The same is happening in dramas.
Some famous actresses in the industry often say that showbiz is not a safe place for women and they face harassment here.
Talking about this, Mohsin Gillani said that some young actresses always say that showbiz is not the right place for girls. His question to them is: if they believe showbiz is not good, and wrong things happen here, then why are they still part of it? Why don’t they leave? Why do they still work in this field, all dressed up?
He gave an example of actress Maham Amir, saying that she slaps people who misbehave with her.
He said he has personally seen strong men being beaten up by women when they tried to do something wrong. So, he suggested that either these actresses should leave the showbiz industry or stop talking against it.
Mohsin Gillani added that if someone is being harassed in this field, they should leave it. And if they feel showbiz is not right according to their religion, then they should also stop working in it.
