Actress Zhalay Sarhadi reacted strongly after the Lahore Development Authority demolished the pet market near Data Darbar in Lahore. She demanded action against those responsible for the incident.

A few days ago the Lahore Development Authority carried out an operation against illegal constructions and demolished dozens of shops in the pet market near Data Darbar.

Several videos appeared on social media in which shopkeepers claimed they were not given time to remove their belongings before the bulldozers started. Some also said that birds and animals were buried under the debris.

In some videos shopkeepers could be seen rescuing animals from the rubble. However the LDA spokesperson denied that any animals or birds died during the operation saying that such reports were false and baseless.

People on social media expressed anger and sadness over the incident calling it cruel and inhuman.

Zhalay Sarhadi shared a video on Instagram saying that she tried to record the video without crying but could not stop herself. She said that what happened in the pet market was completely beyond her understanding.

She added that even if the land was illegal it was LDA’s duty to clear it properly. If they wanted to demolish the shops they should have first made sure the area was empty. Instead innocent animals were buried alive without any reason.

Zhalay Sarhadi said that the authorities made a big mistake. The shops can be rebuilt but the lives that were lost can never be brought back. She said those who killed the animals did not think that one day they would have to answer before God.

The actress demanded that those responsible should be held accountable strict laws should be made and applied and the guilty should be sent to jail and punished.

She said that people are doing all this only because they have power and are not thinking about their actions.

Zhalay Sarhadi added that she cannot understand why innocent animals had to die. She said that while people curse Israel for cruelty they are doing the same by killing helpless animals for no reason. She said this tragedy could have been stopped.

The actress appealed to the federal government all responsible authorities and animal rights organizations to take notice and take action against those involved.
