After the Pahalgam incident, the release of Pakistani superstar Fawad Khan’s Bollywood film Abeer Gulal is now at risk. On Tuesday, an incident in occupied Jammu and Kashmir caused the death of 26 people, most of them tourists. After this, Fawad Khan and Indian actress Vaani Kapoor’s film faced strong criticism, and there has been a harsh reaction in India against Pakistani artists.
The teaser of the film Abeer Gulal was released on April 1. The film was already under criticism, and now there is fear that its release and success might be affected, as a boycott campaign has started on social media.
Some extremist groups in India are raising objections about casting Fawad Khan in the film. The president of the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association, Ashoke Pandit, also opposed the release of the film and said that this is not just a movie, but a matter of national security.
He said that working with Pakistani artists is not acceptable at a time when their country is active against India. He also questioned the participation of Pakistani artists in cricket matches and international shows.
On the other hand, the president of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), BN Tiwari, also announced that they will not allow the release of Abeer Gulal in India. He said that if the film is released, strict action will be taken and there will also be a strong reaction from the public.
Fawad Khan, who has already worked in several Indian films, was making a comeback after a long time with Abeer Gulal. However, now his return to Bollywood seems to be in danger.
