There is No Compulsion in Religion – Alizeh Shah Defends Her Bold Outfit
Pakistani drama actress Alizeh Shah spoke clearly in support of her bold dressing style, even after receiving a lot of criticism.
Alizeh started her acting career in 2018 with the drama Ishq Tamasha and won the Best TV Sensation award. Then in 2019, her drama Ehd-e-Wafa became a big hit. Her on-screen chemistry with Ahad Raza Mir was appreciated.
Because of her early dramas, she became famous not only in Pakistan but also across the border. She played leading roles in many dramas like Daldal, Hoor Pari, Jo Tu Chahey, Mera Dil Mera Dushman, Tanaa Banaa, and Bebasi.
With so many successful projects, it seemed like she would become the next big star in the drama industry. But over time, she became more known for her bold outfits and controversial behavior than her work.
Now she often faces criticism on social media. But this time, she gave a strong reply to all critics and publicly defended her dressing style.
On Instagram, she posted a story responding to the criticism of her short clothes. She said that she grew up in an environment where wearing such clothes was normal.
She wrote that since childhood, she has worn sleeveless tops, shorts, and skirts. She said this was part of how she was raised. Her mother never forced old-fashioned ideas on her about how girls should dress.
Alizeh said her mother raised her with love, not with restrictions. She saw her as a sensitive and expressive person. She said wearing such clothes is not something new for her and she never asked anyone’s permission before.
She questioned why people are now mocking, criticizing, and threatening her just because she is speaking the truth, dressing the way she always has, or not fitting their expectations.
She expressed anger and said that this is not about clothes but about control. She said she is not here to become someone’s ‘acceptable’ version. Whatever she has achieved is from her hard work, and she does not need anyone’s approval.
She ended her long note by saying that the real issue is not her clothes, but the obsession people have with pulling someone down just because they are visible and confident. If her confidence bothers someone, they should ask themselves why.
Alizeh also said that if people think women are doing wrong online, then watching actresses and influencers is just as wrong. Islam teaches us to look at our own actions before judging others.
She said it is not someone’s job to tell a woman to wear a burqa or leave her profession. Everyone will answer to Allah, not to public opinion.
She added that people should let others live and work with respect. The world is already difficult enough for women, so instead of policing them, focus on your own path.
In the end, she shared a verse from the Quran: There is no compulsion in religion (2:256).
Right after this statement came out, public criticism started again. One user said that she has always been like this and fame does not mean taking off your clothes.
Another user said that if there is nothing wrong, then let your mother wear such clothes too, since she raised you this way.
A third person showed sympathy and wrote that Alizeh is the only bold actress he feels sorry for because she has been depressed from a young age. He wondered why her parents never took her to a psychologist. Now he thinks the mother also played a part in her mental condition.
