Renowned Pakistani drama writer Rida Bilal has lashed out at the director of “Behroopia” after noticing changes to the story and characters.
In the success of a drama, actors certainly play a crucial role, but equally important is the contribution of the writer. If the storyline has flaws, even the best performances can’t save a drama from flopping or facing harsh public criticism.
Currently, many writers are contributing to Pakistan’s drama industry, and Rida Bilal is among them. She is known for writing popular dramas such as “Jaan-e-Jahan”, “Khudgarz”, “Zakham”, and “Be Inteha”.
Her latest work “Behroopia” is currently airing on TV screens. The drama stars versatile Pakistani actor and host Faisal Quraishi, who plays a man suffering from multiple personality disorder.
Faisal Quraishi portrays nine different personas in the show, and his performance has received mixed reviews from audiences.
Although the drama was praised at the beginning, its popularity now appears to be declining. Amid this, writer Rida Bilal has broken her silence and expressed deep frustration over the changes made to the story.
She wrote:
“I initially tried to express my concerns respectfully, but everyone has their limits—and I have reached mine. The drama serial Behroopia no longer reflects my original idea. The emotions and writing with which this story was created for the audience are no longer present.”
She revealed that “Most of the characters and scenes have been changed. This reflects a lack of ownership from the channel, the unfulfilled ambitions of the director, and an over-eagerness to write, all of which are contributing to the downfall of the industry.”
It is worth mentioning that the drama is directed by Shakeel Khan, whom Rida Bilal directly criticized in her statements.
