The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken strong action against tax evaders and registered an FIR against internationally famous fashion designer Nomi Ansari for a sales tax fraud of 1.25 billion rupees.

According to reports, sources said that the Corporate Tax Office Karachi, which works under the FBR, acted after getting information about tax evasion. The team completed its initial investigation and found enough evidence to move forward.

Officials got search warrants from a magistrate and raided Nomi Ansari’s factory and major outlets in Mehran Town, Korangi, and DHA. They took control of the records during these raids.

A tax demand order has also been issued against the designer. The case of the 1.25 billion rupee sales tax fraud has been officially registered.

FBR officials said that the Corporate Tax Office Karachi is now acting faster against tax evaders. A case has been filed against Nomi Ansari for fraud related to sales tax worth 1.25 billion rupees.

Sources also said that Nomi Ansari might be arrested when he returns to the country. After the arrest, he will be presented in the Customs and Taxation Court.

It is important to note that back in February this year, the Corporate Tax Office sealed Nomi Ansari’s factory and several outlets in Karachi due to sales tax fraud and violations of point-of-sale rules.

The raids were carried out after getting search warrants from a magistrate, and the outlets raided were in Mehran Town, Korangi, and DHA.

FBR officials said that actions are being taken by field formations across the country as per the new enforcement guidelines.
